Food Planner FAQ

What the planner is, how it works, and what it can't do.

What is the Japan Food Planner?

It's a free editorial tool for travelers. You pick a region and prefecture, choose the local dishes you want to try, and it suggests a simple eating order, a rough food-and-transit budget, a good area to start, and ordering phrases — plus links to related guides and tour plans.

How does it work?

Choose a region on the map (or jump straight to a popular city), pick a prefecture, then tap the local foods you want. You can add foods from several prefectures. When you're ready, build your food trip to see a suggested order, an estimated budget and planning time, and links to phrases and routes.

Does it show real restaurants, opening hours, or live availability?

No. This is a travel food guide, not a live restaurant database. It doesn't list specific shops, opening hours, live availability, or reservations. Always check a maps app for current details before you go.

Can I book or reserve anything through the planner?

No. There is no booking or reservation feature. The planner only helps you decide what to eat and roughly plan a day or trip around it.

How accurate are the budget estimates?

They are rough, traveler-friendly ranges meant only to signal whether something is a snack, a meal, or a splurge, plus a rough allowance for local and long-distance travel. They are not live prices or fares. Yen figures are the primary estimate; any US-dollar figures are approximate and include a small buffer.

How is the planning time estimated?

It's a guide based on how many foods and areas you chose and the likely travel between them. A trip spread across several distant prefectures is shown as multiple days. It's a planning guide, not a fixed itinerary or a guaranteed schedule.

Is the food allergy-safe, halal, vegetarian, or gluten-free?

The planner can't guarantee that. Ingredients and preparation vary by shop, and hidden dashi, wheat, or soy sauce are common. Use our dietary guides to learn what to ask, and always confirm directly with staff before ordering.

Do I need an account, and is my plan saved?

No account is needed. Your most recent trip is saved locally in your own browser so you can return to it, and you can share a trip by copying its link. Nothing is stored on our servers.
